It’s good to be concerned about your health, but don’t let concern turn into worry. Instead, take charge now by focusing on healthy habits that help prevent disease. It’s also smart to talk to your doctor about any health concerns. Use this guide:

If you’re concerned about:
HEART DISEASE
Do This Now: Eat fewer fried foods and processed meats and more heart-healthy fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Be active 30 minutes a day.
Talk to Your Doc: Discuss your family medical history and your personal risk. Ask if you need a blood pressure or cholesterol check.

If you’re concerned about:
DIABETES
Do This Now: Eat foods that are high in fiber and low in added sugar. Keep track of what you eat and how you feel (tired, energized, etc.).
Talk to Your Doc: Discuss your current eating and exercise habits. Ask if you need a blood glucose test.

If you’re concerned about:
BREATHING PROBLEMS
Do This Now: If you smoke, quit as soon as possible, and avoid secondhand smoke, too. Limit your exposure to irritants, like pollen and dust.
Talk to Your Doc: Tell your doctor about your symptoms. Ask your doctor for help to quit smoking, and ask about asthma and allergies.

If you’re concerned about:
WEIGHT GAIN
Do This Now: Focus on eating well and exercising to lose weight gradually.
Talk to Your Doc: Discuss your current weight. Ask if your weight increases your risk for health problems.

If you’re concerned about:
LOW ENERGY
Do This Now: Set a bedtime, and stick to it. Fuel your body with energizing foods, not sugar or caffeine.
Talk to Your Doc: Tell your doctor if you feel tired for more than 2 weeks for no obvious reason, such as illness.
